Hello Leander ISD Community,

I'm running for re-election to the Leander ISD School Board, Place 4.

My family moved to Leander in the fall of 2015 and we decided on Leander ISD because we believe in the district's commitment to excellence in education.  We have 3 children attending Leander ISD schools and one who is a recent Leander ISD graduate who now attends UT- Dallas.

Growing up in poverty, school was my safe place. It was a place where educators encouraged me to break through barriers but also gave me a glimpse of hope of what life could be.  These experiences shaped my perspective on the impact public schools have on students and drove me to become deeply involved in my kids educational community in Leander ISD.

However, my most profound education journey began as a mother navigating the complexities of the special education system in Texas. I encountered a system filled with obstacles that seemed to be crafted to cause chaos and distrust in the system rather than provide students with education opportunities.  This experience has been both eye-opening and motivating at the same time. It's why I first decided to run for the school board in 2020, and it's why I'm running again—to make a difference in the lives of all students and families, especially those families facing similar challenges.

Over the past four years, it has been my privilege to serve as your Board of Trustee for Place 4.  We have achieved significant milestones, including passing a Voter-Approved Tax Rate Election (VATRE), reducing the property tax rate for three consecutive years, initiating a long-range planning committee, and proudly earning the title of the 2023 AP Large District of the Year. These accomplishments reflect our collective commitment to enhancing educational experiences and fiscal responsibility to our community.

Leander ISD is a fantastic district, but it is not without its imperfections. Our district continues to face challenges that require thoughtful leadership and a dedicated approach to growth and improvement. After years of underfunding from the State of Texas, we are confronting significant challenges that require committed and knowledgeable leadership with a deep understanding of the complexities of Texas School Finance.

I am not done advocating for our public schools in Leander ISD and I ask you to join me in my re-election campaign. Let’s continue to advocate like a mother for our #1LISD community.
